SAN FRANCISCO, CA – EIN 941741155  mowsf.org

When we provide nutritious meals and daily safety checks for homebound seniors, we reduce risks associated with loneliness, depression, and falls. We are the ONLY ORGANIZATION in San Francisco that offers TWO HOME-DELIVERED MEALS a day, 7 DAYS a week, that are nutritionally-tailored to meet the dietary needs of seniors.

Additionally, we provide:

Home-Delivered Meals
Home-Delivered Groceries
Nutrition Counseling Services
Well-being and Safety Checks
Social Work and Case Management — home visits and referrals to critical outside services
Minor Home Repair, Home Safety and Urgent Needs — ongoing distribution of grab bars, smoke detectors, microwaves, and refrigerators
Friendly Social Caller and Grocery Shopper Volunteer programs
In 2019 with your support, we were able to deliver:

Our programs and services fulfill a moral and economic imperative to care for seniors in the most cost-effective way possible. Studies show that by keeping seniors in their homes we remove a costly burden on seniors, their families, and the American taxpayers. One 2009 study found that if every state increased the number of older Americans who received meals by just 1 percent, it would have saved Medicaid more than $109 million a year.

WE’RE MORE THAN MEALS
According to Meals on Wheels America, 1 in 5 seniors feels lonely. The negative effects of loneliness on health are similar to smoking up to 15 cigarettes a day. At MOWSF, we pair our meal delivery program with on-site wellness checks ensuring older adults in our community are safe and have what they need to thrive independently. In 2019, we provided:

SERVING THE COMMUNITY
Our Our volunteer-run Home-Delivered Groceries program, in partnership with the SF-Marin Food Bank, grew by 70% in 2019, and is now serving nearly 500 older adults each week.

Volunteers are key to our ability to providing services that matter for older adults aging in place in the city.
